12.06.2010 White Pine

Wills and I met up early for a go at the East Couloir off of No Name.  We were on track doing great, but the wind picked up hard on our ascent out of BB onto the ridge.  What was initially not a wind slab, but mostly just settled snow from the previous snowfall, became a wind slab incredibly fast.  Fastest settled pow to slab I’ve experienced in the backcountry.  I’m others more experienced have seen worse.  Spooked, we decided to back off before it got worse.  The east-facing objective may have still skied great, but might also have gotten significantly loaded from the winds.  On the way down, some ski cuts resulted in some fracturing, but nothing major.  Getting down into the trees felt nice.

Gotta get back up there.

No photos or video due to the whiteout conditions we experienced up there.
