2010.02.21 Goofin’ Around

My dad was in town.  Steve has been dragging his girlfriend into the backcountry lately.  So we thought we’d go explore a section of Mill D North we hadn’t been too yet.  The zone we ended up skiing was very nice.  Although I got some shooting cracks traversing in a thin spot over an open slope.  And then Steve and I topped out on the ridge and made a few ski cuts.  After Steve got a bit of a sluff to go, I cut a few feet lower down and got a somewhat benign soft slab to rip out.  8-12″ deep, 30-40 feet wide, and it traveled about 200 vertical feet.  Nothing too scary as it was moving slow.  Had we skied that line we probably would have beat the slide down to the low angle portion of the slope where it stopped, but better to be safe than sorry.  Unfortunately, neither one of us took any pictures of it.  It’s possible my dad did though.  I’ll add them if he did.

On to the skiing.  It was good.  Here’s a link to Steve’s album from that day.  I’ll add one he snapped of me so this post isn’t all text.  Just finished the run here:
