2010.07.25 – Skis are out of the press!

The Model Twos are out of the press.  Here are a few photos before cutting them out.

Right out of the press. The extra fiberglass/wood/topsheet has to be cut off.

A view of the topsheet. They don't quite look like skis yet.

Next I took the jigsaw to the boards and cut along the metal edges to get rid of all the extra material.  After that I used the router to smooth out and bevel the wood sidewalls.  Looking pretty good.  The flex is decent – more flexy than my Model Ones.  The rocker and camber look good too.  As you can see below, they have quite a bit of front rocker, very little in the back, and about 5 mm of camber underfoot.

The rocker/camber profile can be seen here.

Model Twos. Almost ready for snow.

I only have a few things left to do before they get a test drive on some summer snow.  1) Grind off the epoxy that unfortunately set under the base.  2) There’s a little bit of base/core separation since I had some pressing issues again.  Gotta fix that.  3) Structure and wax the bases.  4) Mount them up.

Mostly easy steps, so they should be ready to go in a few days.
