2010.08.29 – Wild Turkey

I’ve been hearing that the trails in Greensboro are superior to those here in Winston-Salem.  So I drove over there and checked out the Wild Turkey trail.  I was pretty impressed.  The Greensboro Fat Tire Society is a local group of riders that build and maintain the trails there, and they’ve done a great job.

Wild Turkey starts up by the Lake Brandt Marina and winds south for almost 5 miles.  From there you can link up with Owl’s Roost for a longer ride, but I had some errands to run in the afternoon, so I turned around and rode Wild Turkey the other way back to the car.  It was a great ride.  Nice singletrack from start to finish.  Most of it was nice and smooth – less rooty than the trails I’ve ridden here in Winston-Salem so far.  And there were a lot of quick ups and downs and nicely kept berms.  I’ll definitely be going back to check out the rest of the trails in the area.

Here are some photos.  Video down at the bottom.

Pulling into the Marina parking lot.

Buff singletrack.

Well maintained.

Berm 1.

Berm 2.

Some ups and downs.

Another fun berm.

I'm starting to like this NC thing.

Post-ride scenics.

Lake Brandt.

There were a lot of kayakers out in the lake.

Tree by the lake.

Moving pictures.  I recommend clicking on the “vimeo” button to go to the actual page and selecting the HD button to watch it in Hi Def.

Next week it’ll either be Greensboro again for a couple of rides, or a trip west to the Wilkesboro area to ride Dark Mountain.
