2011.02.13 Hanging Rock State Park

Steph and I went on a couple of hikes a month or so back, but I never put up any photos.  So here we go.

Hanging Rock State Park is about an hour’s drive north northeast of Winston-Salem up mostly back roads.  The park is nice.  Since it’s not right off of a major highway it doesn’t get too crowded.  And in February, despite great weather, we only saw a handful of people.

We hiked the Moor’s Wall Loop which is about 4.5 miles.  It starts by meandering around a small lake and then slowly ascends the mountain.

Milton and Roger had fun.

So…. technically, this is a dogs on leash park.  So we’ll pretend that Milton and Roger were on really long, invisible leashes.

It's log!

The boys posed on a boulder outcropping.

The boys and me.

Milton likes exploring.

Milton scrambling down a boulder he had explored.

Milton exploring some more boulders as we got closer to the summit.

Near the summit, shear cliffs drop off to the north, so we put the pups back on the short visible leashes until we were back on the trail going downhill.

Roger, myself and Milton on the top of the observation tower. Roger was not digging it up there, so Steph snapped a photo and we headed down.

Then we headed back down.

Pretty soon we were back at the car and on our way home with some tired dogs.

Roger liked the fresh air. He had a good day.

Up next:  Stone Mountain with some friends and many dogs.
